Hehe, when some other company releases an MMO with a wide ranging appeal we'll see a rather drastic effect on WoW but that has yet to happen. There are a bunch in development atm but few seem to have the potential to really challenge WoW except in very specific areas. We'll see at E3 what's in the works

The downside to Vanguard though, is Brad McQuaid (a la EQ)... his involvement may kill the potential for casual gamers. We'll have to see though...

Vanguard will have things like boats and stuff so that you can switch between all of your PvE sets depending on what stats and abilities you need for a specific encounter, focus on group content with a little bit of solo content, sounds like a good choice for a hardcore PvE player.
Darkfall seems to fill the same function for a hardcore PvP game, before I had a family and anything like a life it would have been top on my list.
Age of Conan sounds very interesting but seems to be veering off the casual approach with content and abilities/classes only available to guilds.
W.A.R. (Warhammer Online) is the most interesting for me, RvR centric from Mythic (DAOC) based on a darker fantasy that is still aiming at being very casual friendly in that both PvE and RvR will have content you can do when you have very little time available and don't have time to organize groups/raids.
But we'll see, like I said, E3 should give us a lot of reviews/previews etc. to look at... In the long run it looks like Bioware is getting into MMO's too which is very interesting (unfortunately they hired ex-SOE/EA people which doesn't bode well but they do know how to create a good game...)

Yeah, I just heard Bioware is staffing up to open an office here in Austin. I have a couple of friends who are trying to get on board. If I was looking to get back into the industry, I'd do the same, hehe.
But having the same situation as your aforementioned family and wanting to have a life outside of work keeps my desires to go back firmly in check, hehe.
And don't knock all the ex-EA folks. We had some really great talent.

LoL, Rollie, part of the reason for my negative attitude towards EA is that I know some very talented people that worked for EA in europe. My understanding is that the people Bioware recruited so far are mainly managerial types and I'm not too fond of companies that consider 12-16 hour workdays for 7-8 months acceptable.
@Sianni - yeah, a couple of kids change your perspective on life
