So my computer just crapped out . I think it might be something I did. I dusted it... and then it doesn't want to start... or it doesn't progress on the POST after checking the CPU and the RAM. Sigh...
Now looking into these Core 2 DUO's but damn my luck, I'm just about to move into a new apt and I can't splurge the way I want.
So anyone have any experiences or preferneces regarding Pentium/AMD XP/Vista etc etc?
I knew Vista was coming yet I went ahead in January and bought a Core2 Duo laptop with Windows XP and eventhough it came with a discount on Vista when it gets released, I never took up the offer. And I will most likely not purchase Vista for at least a year or more...
But pretty much all pc's you buy now have Vista installed
I'd take it to a computer repair shop and have them diagnose it. You may get lucky and pay a small price and get your comp fixed than have to completely upgrade to a new machine
Well the nice thing is WoW runs on about anything. I only upgraded my motherboard and video card to play Vanguard because my 6800gt got about 5fps. I upgraded to a new sli motherboard, low end 3200+ amd chip, and a 8800gtx, but kept windows xp on my new computer. I ran WoW easily with my old computer, and on my laptop when I was at work. I would probably still be using my old setup if it wasn't for me being so infatuated with Vanguard which turned out to be a DUD. So don't be bummed out if you can't splurge on the BEST cause in WoW you aren't going to see much of a difference really with a high end machine, and a low end one.

Yeah, I built my computer back in 2003, and that's pretty much its exact stats (128MB Radeon 9000 Pro vid card as well.) I've gotten a lot of use out of it, that's for sure... MMOs still run pretty well, even with all the settings turned up. I probably could achieve better framerate by turning them down some... but meh. I plan on building myself a new one soon, but I don't have enough money. Haha.

"Depending on the type of application you are running or even your theory of computer science, you might have a preference for one type of server or another," he added.
