PvE to PvP transfers opened!!!

Post by Hybuir »

ZOMG! That doesn't mean I have to level another warrior on Boulderfist.

Average wait time was hovering around 4 hours, and cost me $25, but I undid the worst mistake I've ever done in w0w, (apart from letting a friend into my account, which he botted and got me banned way back pre-BC).

You guys should keep an eye on the influx of new people on them PvP servers. mmm hmm

I laughed when I heard about this, because Blizzard has stated many times over the years that this was not going to happen. But oh well, good for the players I suppose, and more money to them.

I do see the money angle and I also see the "let the newbs go into the slaughterhouse and realize that they hate it and see them xfer back" angle. Also you could factor wanting to let people finish content.

I suppose it could be related to Warhammer and how PVP focused the game is, and allowing the majority of Blizzard's players to now experience PVP content in the outside world using chars that they really love and have been playing for months and years could be a seller I suppose.

Sure its easy to just roll an alt and see how it goes, but when you've already done so much on one char its hard to let it go.

There have already been several goodbye posts on the Silvermoon forums about people switching to the PVP servers. But nearly all of them have already been playing on the PVP realms for quite sometime on an alt.

It also allows those that transfered to PVE realms and haven't had the luck getting into raids or just did it by mistake, can now transfer back to PVP.

Its a good thing I suppose... but it means one can easily lvl on a PVE realm and switch to PVP for end game stuff.

I'm not leaving my PVE realm :P

Same here, I've been saying for years as well, that if they can charge for it, it will happen.

I'm not sure what the US realms are like, but the EU Eng ones have been badly mismanaged as regards opening PvP realms, as up till TBC launch they continued to launch PvP realms on a regular basis even though there's was several nowhere near full. PvE realms are a different story, they've all got healthy pops (all hitting at least 80% of the cap at peak times). So from a EU point of view it makes sense to open PvE to PvP transfers as a means of trying to balance the pops out.

I've already noticed that they've increased the number of Full PvP realms probably to try and get transfers forced to the quieter realms.

Mal'Ganis has already been slammed with a ton more incoming players... the other day, the server crashed every half hour for the whole evening/night :( I don't remember the last time our server pop thing hasn't said "full"... having a lot of players is good. Having so many that the server decides to randomly crash on a regular basis is bad.

As far as pve/pvp goes, I've been leveling up a char on a pve realm with some buddies as a way to kill time, and it's ridiculous how much easier it is than leveling on a pvp realm. $25 is way worth it for the time saved :| After leveling almost 5 70's on a full pvp realm, even I can say that there's no reason to level on a pvp server anymore, heh.

Even playing on a pvp server at 70 with so-called "world pvp" isn't even that much fun... when world pvp is completely comprised of ganking low levels, exploiting guards/terrain, and killing people while they're questing/farming/fighting 3 mobs, it's stupid. Usually people reply with "QQ Pvp server", but that doesn't change the fact that it's dumb. I never have and never will take pleasure in griefing people. A fair fight or contest can be fun. Destroying someone who never had a chance when they're not even expecting it is not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I don't enjoy winning an easy pvp fight... but I'm not going to exploit terrain, pick somebody 30 levels lower than me, or gank somebody already fighting 3 mobs to do it.

I was sure this pve > pvp thing was bound to happen at some point... for the US servers, it's probably mostly to get alliance off of the alliance heavy pve servers to the horde heavy pvp servers. I guess we'll see how many people stay, but I can say I do hope people stop crashing Mal'Ganis, haha.

EDIT: Apparently today they finally locked incoming xfers to Mal'Ganis. Yay!

Well I'm seeing the positive side. A good friend of mine here in Austin was in a PvE server with a geared warrior, 2000+heals holy priest, and a mage. Now he's helping me gear up my undergeared Hybuir. W00t. He's unguilded and I know he doesn't have anything better to do :P
