I just blocked and banned a spambot.
Sadly not a rare occurrence.
As I did my due diligence on the membership application, I discovered the above named ISP based out of Warsaw Poland did little to protect its IP assets from spam sourcing.
That being the case, I blocked not only the IP of the spambot.. but the full class C (old style address recognition) and both neighboring class C nets.. 3x 254 IP addresses.
I didn't bother to look further... but I expect any other address from that ISP that attempt to connect with this site.. will probably also be spambots.
It is sad when you have a company that is either clueless or doesn't care about the reputation of the business.
I would not recommend this ISP - Orange Polska S A

Fully aware
But doesn't change the facts.
out of 3 class C network blocks owned by the ISP a full >80% of the addresses were caught by honey pots (sites not for real visits, just for tracking automated spammers).
And the vast majority of those visits were for forum comment spamming.
A business that cares that little about the reputation of its products/services must be either a criminal organization or a state sponsor/allowed monopoly.
Either way the people and businesses that make up the rest of the internet will protect themselves by blocking access from this (as far as they are concerned) rogue ISP.
This has the effect of denying access for the people of Poland who suffer from limited access opportunities to many sites.

Overnight we had two new account starts.
One I am going to have to wait and let things clarify as the IP and email was caught in one honey pot... but that could have been an innocent accident.. or not.
The other from the ISP ERTELECOM.RU has been banned.
This ISP appears to be as bad as they come.
100% of the IP addresses had Spam sourcing,
email address harvesting that was later used for spam,
forum comment spam,
and automated attack attempts to break password protection.
The ISP has 64 class C blocks of addresses 64*256.
With this latest attack attempt here I just blocked 2 of those blocks
I am not going to bother but I expect I have already block some of other blocks and eventually all of this ISP addresses will be blocked from this site

Year 2015 and ISPs that still use dynamic IP???Fugazi wrote:FYI Orange (called TPSA in dark ages) is biggest ISP in Poland (still often monopolist). For home users it offers ADSL/VDSL with dynamic IP (reset every 24 hours).
I'm chocked..
In Denmark, static IP have been the only thing,,since ... Hmm.. 1995ish, I think..
Doing census mainly on Draenor; Raluf - Nimsay - Lusmo - Quixx - Sosyan - Garthog - Trubin - Zalistra - Zesmi and Djaang

for IPv4 Dynamic is more the norm then static for commercial ISP.
Often times if you want a static address.. you need to be willing to pay for a block of them at a higher per month charge.
With static the ISP has to have the staff to maintain the link between customer account and specific address.
Whereas with dynamic the ISP just tosses the new account into the pool.
